You are here: Pandora’s Box - Civil Partnership

The big day is finally here.  You have snagged your perfect Knight in Shining Armour, now it is time to attach the shackles and enjoy him for a life time.

But if we know you like we think we know you, there is a few storm clouds brewing on the horizon.  And as we would like to help ensure that this day is the best of your last single / first married day, we have done some ground work for you.

So take a deep breath, pop open a bottle of good wine (we recommend one to two though, we cannot accept responsibility for what you come up with after 3 or more bottles...), get your favourite music going, and let’s get started.  Oh, and if he can join in it will be a great time to start planning the first day of your rest of your lives together!

The main thing that make most of us sweat at the thought of planning a ceremony, is how much is involved.  But it is actually quite simple.   Follow this plan and you will say “I do” looking your best.

Here we go.  There is a few things that will need your attention over the next few weeks:

1.The Date

The date will play an important part to the theme of your Civil Partnership.  A Summer ceremony allows for having your ceremony and reception outside, with light finger snacks, where as a Winter ceremony will most probably be hosted inside with a sit down meal.

2. The Budget

Be careful here.  If you don’t plan properly costs might spiral out of control very quickly.  Create your budget and STICK TO IT!

3. The Rings

Your rings is something you will be wearing for a lifetime, make sure the fit is comfortable and the design will stand the test of time.

4. Where you want to tie the knot

Most Civil Ceremonies takes place in a Council premises. however feel free to enquire if other venues offer the service.  It might be easier to have both the ceremony and reception at the same place to keep travelling costs down.

5. What reception you would like to have and who you would like to invite.

Do you want to have a light or very formal ceremony?  Do you want the neighbour and their dogs as well, or just a small family and close friend gathering?

6. The theme of your wedding.

7. What flowers you can use.

We have created a full guide on the different flowers you can get every month, please see the menu to the left.  Please speak to your florist about cost and availability.

8. What menu you would like and who can do the catering.

Again, do you want a light finger meal or a full-on sit down meal?  Depending on your budget, your caterer will be able to advise the best step forward.

9. Do you have cultural / Family customs and / or traditions to consider?

10. Who will you ask to play a special part in your day i.e. choice of attendants.

As these people will play a special supporting role on your big day, make sure you choose someone who is dependable, but also someone who’s advise you can value when needed most.

And most of all, enjoy the day!  Know that there will be stressful times, but decide now that when they do come around, the two of you will sit down, evaluate the situation calmly and choose an alternative.  Do not let the little set backs influence the big day, plan well ahead and make space for the problems.  It might not seem like it at the time, but in 10 years time those will be the special moments the two of you will always remember, as it was another thing you did together!
